DIY Stair Makeover

In August of 2023 I ordered stair runners from Wayfair that said they’d arrive in October – well they arrived just a week later! I wasn’t sure how many I would need so in my mind I needed to get started right away so I could return one if necessary.

This kicked off a whirlwind three week makeover! Once I started ripping up the carpet I needed to finish as fast as possible so Cheddar didn’t step on any staples or splinters.

Check out the 3 part series on how I did it and the cost and time breakdown below!

💰TOTAL COST: $497

This does not count tools I already had and I factored in the percentage of products I used part of like wood filler and Bondo. Tax included. Here’s a list of the supplies I used.

⏳TIME SPENT: ~74 hours

Includes prep work, sourcing supplies, fixing mistakes I made while exhausted and working on the stairs too late at night. 🙃 My family was shook but I wasn’t that surprised! It’s always slow the first time you do something especially when you are dealing with someone else’s work and have to do repairs. If you already have nice treads and risers and just need to paint and add a rug the time would be cut down significantly.

Did this surprise you? Do you think I’m insane?? (I am) But it was worth it! The stairs are visible when you enter our house and from the living room and kitchen. Thanks for all the love on this project and stay tuned for my next DIY ☺️
